In celebration of Women’s History Month, the York County Regional Chamber proudly recognizes the outstanding women leaders who have been honored with the ATHENA International Leadership Award. This prestigious award celebrates individuals who exemplify professional excellence, community service, and a commitment to empowering others.

A business leader and dedicated community advocate, Kathy Bigham co-owned and operated the beloved restaurant “Thursday’s Too” for nearly three decades. Beyond her successful business endeavors, she served on multiple boards, including the Winthrop University Board of Trustees, and mentored young women in the workforce, encouraging leadership and independence.

As General Manager of Carowinds, Pat Jones led the park through historic growth, including major expansions and multi-million-dollar investments. With nearly 40 years in the amusement park industry, she inspired employees and demonstrated that strong, results-driven leadership can also be fun and approachable.

Geri Hopkins, Chief Operations Officer at Skyla Credit Union, is known for her strategic leadership and advocacy for workplace equality. She has served as a mentor in the Women’s Mentoring Network, led the Regional Chamber Board, and actively worked to advance opportunities for women in leadership.

A highly respected attorney specializing in employment law, Bev Carroll has guided businesses through complex legal challenges. Beyond her legal career, she has held leadership roles in the South Carolina Bar and multiple local organizations, always advocating for growth and development in Rock Hill.

With decades of experience in real estate, Pam Morrell has been a leader in the York County business community since 1978. Recognized for her service and leadership, including being named the “Career Woman of the Year” by the Rock Hill Chapter of BPW and earning the Chamber’s Citizenship and Service Award. Her success is matched by her dedication to mentoring and community involvement.

As a State Farm agent and active community leader, Dawn Johnson has dedicated herself to economic development and financial empowerment. She co-founded the Black Economic Leadership League of Rock Hill, served as Board Chair for the Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation, and continues to lead initiatives that promote business growth and community impact.

As President of York Technical College, Dr. Moore has been a driving force in higher education, advocating for workforce development and accessible learning opportunities. She has served on multiple regional boards, shaping economic and educational policies while mentoring students and professionals to become future leaders.

An economist and senior manager at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Dr. Laura Ullrich’s work has shaped policies on higher education, economic development, and community growth. A former Fulbright Scholar and professor, she continues to influence financial and economic policy while serving on multiple boards across the Carolinas.

These extraordinary women embody the values of leadership, service, and empowerment, paving the way for future generations. Their contributions remind us that strong, passionate leadership can transform businesses, communities, and lives.
