The York County Regional Chamber is proud to announce Eddie Pickett, owner of Quality Cleaning Janitorial Services, as the recipient of the prestigious Robert F. Youngblood Lifetime Business Achievement Award. This honor recognizes individuals who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the betterment of the business community, an enhanced business image in the local area, and a dedication to positive progress in York County.

For over 30 years, Eddie Pickett has exemplified these values through his work with Quality Cleaning Janitorial Services, Rock Hill’s premier choice for commercial cleaning. Under Eddie’s leadership, Quality Cleaning has provided exceptional services to office buildings, industrial facilities, retail spaces, and medical offices throughout the Piedmont region, stretching from Charlotte, NC, to Chester and York, SC. His hands-on approach as owner and on-site supervisor ensures the highest levels of customer satisfaction and professionalism.

Eddie’s success is rooted in his commitment to ethical business practices, professional responsibility, and a people-first philosophy. He values his employees as the backbone of his business, ensuring they are well-trained, well-supervised, and empowered to deliver top-quality service. Doug Echols

Doug Echols Receives the Citizenship & Service Award

The York County Regional Chamber is honored to announce Doug Echols as the recipient of the Citizenship & Service Award. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the “greater good” of York County through exemplary citizenship, leadership, and service, as well as vision, innovation, and a commitment to community progress.

Serving as mayor for five terms from 1998 to 2018, following two terms on the City Council, Doug's leadership transformed Rock Hill into a model of growth, revitalization, and community collaboration. During his tenure, the city experienced remarkable urban renewal, including the revitalization of its core and the repurposing of old textile mills into thriving senior housing complexes and corporate headquarters.

Doug’s visionary leadership extended to the development of Rock Hill's renowned parks and tourism facilities, such as Cherry Park, Manchester Meadows, and the Rock Hill Outdoor Cycling Center. His efforts were bolstered by innovative funding solutions, including the implementation of a hospitality tax and bonds that enhanced aging sports facilities.

Doug’s ability to build consensus among community leaders, foster partnerships, and utilize resources beyond his official responsibilities reflects his unwavering commitment to public service. His legacy is one of leadership, dedication, and transformative impact on York County.

Dr Laura Ullrich

Dr. Laura Ullrich Honored with ATHENA International Leadership Award

The York County Regional Chamber is proud to recognize Dr. Laura Ullrich as the recipient of the prestigious ATHENA International Leadership Award. This award celebrates outstanding women who have achieved professional excellence, improved the quality of life in their communities, and inspired others—particularly women—to reach their full leadership potential.

Dr. Ullrich, a regional economist and senior manager at the Charlotte branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, has built an exceptional career in economics and leadership. She oversees the Regional and Community Analysis unit, including the Richmond Fed Survey of Community College Outcomes, and has contributed significantly to higher education and community development initiatives.

Previously serving as associate dean and professor at Winthrop University, Dr. Ullrich has also held roles as a Fulbright Scholar in Kosovo and a business consultant with Ernst & Young. Her research and leadership efforts focus on issues such as community college policy, school finance reform, and the economic impact of local development.

Dr. Ullrich’s commitment to service extends far beyond her professional work. She is an active member of her community, serving on the boards of the Catawba Regional Council of Governments, Family Promise of York County, and the Carolina Immigrant Alliance, among others. Her passion for fostering leadership, especially among women, makes her a deserving recipient of this esteemed award.

Debbie Whitesett

Honoring Debbie Whitesell, Hospitality Professional of the Year

Congratulations to Debbie Whitesell, founder and owner of Olive’s Mud Puddle, on being named the Hospitality Professional of the Year! Since establishing Olive’s Mud Puddle in 2012, Debbie has built a community-centered space that brings people together to create, caffeinate, and connect. With the addition of "The Mud Puddle" coffee shop in 2016, Debbie has seamlessly combined her love for art and hospitality, making her establishment a beloved hub in Fort Mill.

The Hospitality Professional of the Year Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in their field, including outstanding customer service and significant contributions to the hospitality industry.

Through her vibrant, whimsical handmade creations, Debbie brightens homes and gardens while showcasing the talents of local artists—from Fort Mill high school students to seasoned professionals. Her dedication to fostering creativity and community spirit embodies the very essence of hospitality.

Meg Jenkins-Locke Honored with the Harvey Hawkins Fort Mill/Tega Cay Area Business Person of the Year Award

With over 30 years of entrepreneurial experience, Meg has established herself as a leader in blending family values, community involvement, and exceptional service. From founding Carolina Moon Hospitality and leading Groucho’s Deli in Rock Hill to growing Legacy Health & Wellness MedSpa in Fort Mill, she has consistently prioritized community connections and support for local nonprofits.

A South Carolina native, Meg's passion for hospitality and service was inspired by her family’s commitment to community. Today, her dedication to leadership and innovation continues to uplift local businesses and inspire others across the York County region.

Watts Huckabee

A. Watts Huckabee Honored as Rock Hill Area Business Person of the Year

The York County Regional Chamber is proud to recognize A. Watts Huckabee, Sr., founder and president of CIIG, as the 2024 Rock Hill Area Business Person of the Year. From leading the Forrest Hills community in adopting and cleaning stretches of Railroad Avenue, Woodland Avenue, and Southbrook Drive, to maintaining a local church cemetery and leaving water out for those in need on Congress Street, Steve has shown an unwavering dedication to improving the lives of others.

Blu J Agency Recognized as Small Business of the Year

The York County Regional Chamber is thrilled to announce Blu J Agency as the recipient of the 2024 Small Business of the Year Award. This honor celebrates small businesses that exemplify excellence, community engagement, and a commitment to growth and service.

Founded in 2016 by Jerrianne Jackson, Founder and Broker in Charge, and her husband Stanley, Blu J Agency has built a reputation as more than just a real estate agency. Their mission to serve the community drives their efforts beyond buying and selling homes. From actively participating in local events and supporting nonprofits to partnering with schools and serving on improvement councils, the Jacksons have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact across Rock Hill and the greater York County area.

Strategically located on Saluda Street, Blu J Agency reflects the pride and rich history of the neighborhood while working to uplift its residents. Their dedication to creating learning opportunities and fostering meaningful partnerships has established Blu J Agency as a pillar of the community.

Andy Clinton

Andy Clinton Honored as Young Professional of the Year

The York County Regional Chamber proudly recognizes Andy Clinton, President & CEO of Visit York County, as the 2024 Young Professional of the Year. This prestigious award highlights individuals aged 21-39 who demonstrate exceptional leadership, professional development, and a commitment to community impact.

Since stepping into his role, Andy has spearheaded transformative initiatives to position York County as a premier travel destination. Under his leadership, Visit York County has seen a remarkable 10% increase in funding, a 27% rise in local tourism taxes, and a 49% surge in state tourism grants. His efforts have also fostered record-breaking hotel partnerships, surpassing $1 million for the first time, driving significant economic growth for the region.

Andy’s influence extends beyond his professional achievements. He actively participates in organizations like the SC Restaurant & Lodging Association and the SC Travel & Tourism Coalition while dedicating time to local causes such as ChristmasVille, the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, and the York County Gamecock Club.
