Annual Awards Criteria

Each year the Regional Chamber recognizes the best of the best in business achievement. Companies that are members of the chamber and individual representatives are eligible for nomination for a variety of annual awards. Criteria for each are outlined below.

Awards Criteria

Business Person of the Year
Candidates for our Business Person of the Year awards must have shown ethical business practices, be reputable and have an overall positive image in the business community, and the ability and interest in influencing the business climate.  The candidate’s company should have demonstrated growth in number of employees, increase in sales dollar and/or unit volume and innovation of product or service. This award will be presented to a business person in each of the chamber's service areas:  ​Fort Mill/Tega Cay, Rock Hill and York.

 

Young Professional of the Year
This annual award recognizes one individual, 21- to 39- years old, who shows great promise for active community leadership. This individual will be recognized for overall character, leadership, and overall accomplishment in relationship-building and professional development. Candidates should have demonstrated:
• Participation and interest in broader Chamber programs, events, and initiatives; and
• Potential future impact to the business community

 

Small Business Person of the Year
Candidates for this award must own and operate a small business or nonprofit with 25 employees or less, must have been in business at least 3 years, and must have been a chamber member in good standing for at least 1 year. Members who have previously received this award must wait 2 years to be reconsidered for this recognition. Regional Board and Small Business Advisory Council members are not eligible for nomination during their term of service.​

 

Robert F. Youngblood
Lifetime Business Achievement Award

Candidate must have shown a sustained commitment to working for the betterment of the business community, increasing the business image in the local community,  a demonstrated willingness to work for positive progress in the York County area, staying power, adaptability, and response to adversity. Candidate must also have obtained a successful business record, demonstrating professional responsibility and ethical business practices toward employees, customers and the community.

 

Citizenship & Service Award
Nominees must have made significant contributions to the “greater good” of York County, with an emphasis on citizenship and service, along with demonstrated enthusiasm, leadership, initiative, idealism, commitment, innovation, and vision.  Candidates must have consistently illustrated the ability to develop positive relationships and the skill to build consensus among community leaders, and must have effectively utilized resources outside the scope of his/her employment and responsibility.

 

ATHENA International Leadership Award
This award is presented in order to recognize outstanding women in leadership roles. Candidates must have achieved (or are working to achieve) a high level of professional excellence. She must contribute significant time and energy towards improving the quality of life for others in her community, and have a history of actively assisting others, particularly women, in realizing their full leadership potential.
